Gospel musician Nathaniel Bassey has shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria the lead in the 75th minute, but Tawanda Chirewa equalized in the 90th minute at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The result has significantly impacted the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for next year’s tournament.
Nigeria remains in fourth place with seven points, six behind South Africa, and one point behind both Rwanda and Benin Republic.
Bassey took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration: “I’ve always said this, one of our problems is managing small success. You score just one goal, and suddenly, you think you’ve qualified for the World Cup.
“The Zimbabweans practically strolled from midfield into the net unchallenged while we watched. Na wa. Now they’ll start calculating maths.”
