Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Napoli’s highly-rated winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia during the January transfer window, according to French outlet L’Equipe. The Georgian international has become a primary target for United as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
The Manchester Evening News reports that United has been scouting several players, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Randal Kolo Muani among those linked to the club. However, no official bid has been made for the Frenchman. Instead, L’Equipe claims that United’s focus has shifted to Kvaratskhelia, and discussions with Napoli are described as “concrete contacts,” signaling the club’s intention to secure a deal.
However, Manchester United faces stiff competition from PSG, who are also eager to sign Kvaratskhelia. Napoli is reportedly open to selling the winger but is unlikely to accept a player-plus-cash deal involving Marcus Rashford, as United had hoped to navigate financial constraints under the Premier League’s Sustainability Rules (PSR) with such an arrangement. Meanwhile, PSG has already submitted an offer of £67 million, which United may struggle to match unless they can raise funds through player sales.
Rashford, who has drawn interest from clubs like AC Milan, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund, could help facilitate the deal if sold. However, these clubs are reportedly considering loan options with a buy clause, which would not provide United with the immediate funds needed to outbid PSG.
Given PSG’s financial advantage and proactive approach, it seems increasingly unlikely that Manchester United will land Kvaratskhelia this transfer window, especially without significant funds to compete with the Parisians’ offer.
