According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim is on the verge of making his first signing for the club with the arrival of 17-year-old left-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. The young talent is expected to travel to Manchester on January 11 to finalize the deal but will not officially sign a contract until he turns 18.
Deal Details
The transfer, reportedly worth €4 million plus bonuses, has been in the works for several weeks. Fabrizio Romano has stated that the total package, including performance-related bonuses, could rise to $6-7 million (£4.9-5.7 million). While Leon cannot officially join Manchester United until he comes of age, he is expected to sign later in the year, likely during the summer.
A Dream Move
Leon’s mother, Brigida Blanco, described the move as a dream opportunity for any footballer and expressed confidence that the deal would go through. The player himself is reportedly eager to make the switch and begin his journey in Europe.
Plans for Leon at United
Initially, Leon will join Manchester United’s youth team, with the ultimate goal of earning a spot in the senior squad. During his visit to Manchester, Leon will meet Amorim, club officials, and his future teammates, as well as tour the Carrington training complex and Old Trafford.
This signing reflects Amorim’s focus on building for the future, as United aim to develop promising talent while reinforcing the squad under his leadership.
