Manchester City have announced the signing of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens, marking the 20-year-old centre-back as their first acquisition of the January transfer window.
Khusanov, who could become the first player from Uzbekistan to feature in the Premier League, joins the club for a reported fee of €40 million (£33.6 million). He has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until at least the summer of 2029.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Khusanov told the club’s official website:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club I’ve admired for a long time.
“This squad is packed with the best players in the world, and I can’t wait to meet them and play alongside them. And of course, Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches ever, so I’m incredibly excited to learn from him and continue improving my game.
“This is a very proud moment for me and my family, joining a great club like Manchester City. I’m ready to embrace this challenge and give my all.”
Khusanov’s arrival further bolsters City’s defensive options as they continue to strengthen their squad for future success.
