Barcelona sporting director Deco has downplayed rumors linking the club to a potential move for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, emphasizing that the club’s immediate priority is securing contract renewals rather than pursuing new signings.
Barcelona is one of several European clubs reportedly monitoring Rashford, who has struggled for regular playing time at United. While AC Milan’s interest has cooled and doubts linger over Rashford’s interest in a move to Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona has been described as the England international’s “dream” destination.
Despite reports suggesting Barcelona was preparing a bid for Rashford, Deco has been quick to temper expectations. Speaking to Movistar before Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Benfica, Deco addressed a recent meeting with Arturo Canales, an intermediary for Manchester United. “We are dealing with [financial] fair play issues,” Deco said. “If we can strengthen the team, we will, but as of today, there is nothing.”
Deco reiterated that Barcelona’s main focus remains compliance with La Liga’s strict financial regulations. The club has already sought emergency measures from the Spanish government to temporarily register players like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor this season.
“These are fair play issues, and our priority right now is renewing the contracts of key players in the squad,” Deco explained. “Once that is resolved, we can consider reinforcements, but it’s not something the manager has specifically requested.”
Meanwhile, reports from the British media suggest Rashford is determined to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place. Despite not featuring under head coach Ruben Amorim since mid-December, the 27-year-old is reportedly undergoing extra training sessions in a bid to regain his spot in the squad.
