Chelsea have joined Manchester City in expressing interest in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to reports.
Since his £42.4m move to Juventus this summer, Luiz has struggled for game time, and the former Aston Villa player has been frequently linked with a return to the Premier League. These rumors gained traction earlier this week when it was revealed that City, one of Luiz’s former clubs, were considering a move for the Brazilian.
Meanwhile, Juventus are working on their own signings, with director Cristiano Giuntoli recently in London for talks with Chelsea about Portugal international Renato Veiga. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, it was during these discussions that Chelsea made their interest in Luiz known.
Chelsea are exploring midfield options after Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia both suffered injuries, with Lavia potentially facing a lengthy absence. The Blues are now considering a loan move for Luiz.
The Telegraph reports that Juventus were open to Chelsea’s inquiry, but the Serie A club’s demand for a commitment to a permanent transfer at the end of the season has hindered any potential deal.
As negotiations continue over Veiga’s future, Gianluca Di Marzio claims Juventus have been quoted a £5m fee just to secure Veiga on loan, with Chelsea reportedly seeking around £20m for a permanent transfer. Lazio are also exploring a move for Veiga as part of their bid to sign Cesare Casadei this month.
