Ademola Lookman has reportedly informed Atalanta of his intention to leave the club this summer.
The 27-year-old forward, who has one year remaining on his contract, has made it clear to the Serie A side that he is seeking a new challenge. This has triggered interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool, Newcastle, and Barcelona all said to be monitoring the situation.
Lookman has been in superb form this season, contributing 18 goals and 7 assists, playing a crucial role in Atalanta’s push for the title. Additionally, he was recently crowned African Footballer of the Year, rounding off a remarkable 12 months.
Atalanta are reportedly seeking a fee of around £50m for Lookman, preferring to sell him this summer rather than losing him on a free transfer in 2026.
The decision to part ways comes after a high-profile clash with manager Gian Piero Gasperini, following a penalty miss in their Champions League match against Club Brugge. Gasperini’s harsh criticism, calling Lookman ‘the worst penalty taker he had ever seen’, reportedly sparked a reaction from the player, who made his frustration known on social media.
Given the circumstances, a summer departure seems increasingly likely, benefiting both the player and the club.
