Veteran coach Claude Le Roy has named Nigeria’s Super Eagles among the title contenders for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles, who have won the prestigious tournament three times, are considered one of the most successful teams in AFCON history. They came close to claiming a fourth title last year in Côte d’Ivoire, losing 2-1 to the host nation in the final.
Le Roy, who led the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to AFCON glory in 1988, is backing Nigeria to challenge for the title once again.
“Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria, and Egypt are always formidable opponents in this competition,” he told LeSitelnfo. “We must also be cautious of South Africa, which continues to progress under a very good coach. Cameroon remains a tough competitor to beat.”
The Super Eagles are set to face Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in the group stage in Morocco.
Nigeria will open their campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, in Fez.
