Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Spurs were interested in securing a loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, but insisted that a move was never close to happening.
Kolo Muani, who was sidelined by PSG coach Luis Enrique at the end of last season, became a target for several clubs after it was clear his future lay away from Paris. Tottenham and Manchester United were both heavily linked with the French striker. However, it now seems Juventus have emerged as the frontrunners, with a loan deal set to be announced soon.
When asked if missing out on Kolo Muani was a significant blow, Postecoglou’s response was direct: “No.” He went on to explain:
“We were interested and are looking at a number of players, but did we get to the point where we thought he was coming to us? No.”
Tottenham, who currently find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table, have been active in the transfer market, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky already joining the club this month. However, Postecoglou acknowledged the difficulty of making moves in the January window.
“It is tricky, as all clubs are finding, and traditionally things ramp up in the final week, so we’re approaching that time,” the manager explained.
“The club is working as hard as it can, and that’s all you can ask for. January’s not an easy month, but a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to bring in reinforcements.”
Postecoglou also emphasized that he wasn’t frustrated, stating:
“It would be frustrating if the club weren’t working hard, but they are. It’s not easy, and sometimes other clubs realize that and try to make the most of it.”
