Antony earned his second La Liga MVP award after Real Betis’ 3-2 loss to Celta Vigo on Saturday, surpassing his Premier League record during his two-and-a-half years with Manchester United.
The Brazilian joined Betis on loan in January to reignite his career, which had stalled since his £81.3m transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2022. So far, the move has been successful, with Antony securing back-to-back MVP awards in his first two games for the club.
During his time at United, Antony won the Premier League Player of the Match award just once—during a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in April 2023.
On Saturday, he scored his first goal for Betis, and he is now 20% of the way to matching his total league goals from his time at United, where he scored only five times in 62 Premier League appearances.
There is still a chance for him to return to the Premier League, as Antony’s loan deal with Betis does not include an option for a permanent transfer, meaning he will be back at United this summer. While Antony hinted after his debut that he could consider a move to Betis, any permanent switch would depend on how much United is willing to lose financially.
