Renowned Yoruba actor Kunle Afod has responded to allegations of sexual abuse in the Yoruba film industry by strongly disputing the existence of such practices. In a recent interview, he addressed the claims that actresses are forced to have affairs in order to land movie roles, saying that if such incidents do actually happen, the actresses involved should come forward and speak out.
During the interview on Seun Oloketuyi TV’s official YouTube channel, Afod challenged the actresses who claimed to have been forced into such situations to come forward and expose the truth. He emphasized that only by bringing such matters to light could the public know whether these allegations are genuine or mere rumors.
Afod went on to argue that while relationships between colleagues may happen in any professional environment, such as between doctors, nurses, or bankers, it is ultimately a personal decision. He stated that dating among colleagues is a natural part of adult life, but it should not be confused with the idea of coercion or manipulation to gain career opportunities.
He further asserted that talent will always remain the primary factor in the movie industry. According to Afod, an actress who lacks talent cannot expect to succeed solely based on personal relationships with actors. Even if such an actress were to engage in an affair to secure a role, he believes it would be a futile effort because her lack of skill would ultimately prevent her from being cast in future projects.
Afod also suggested that actresses who are not willing to compromise their principles or participate in any inappropriate behavior should take matters into their own hands. He proposed that they could simply produce their own films if they felt excluded from mainstream movie roles due to their refusal to engage in certain practices. This, he believes, would be a more effective route than seeking to blame others for their lack of opportunities.
He firmly believes that talent should always take precedence, and any claims of coercion or abuse must be substantiated by those who have experienced it firsthand. Until such allegations are proven, he remains confident that the industry operates on the basis of skill and merit.
In his remarks, “If an actress who isn’t talented chooses to have sex with an actor to get a movie role, she would be wasting her time because the actors won’t feature her in movies because she’s not talented. An actress who isn’t willing to have an affair with an actor for movie roles should go ahead and produce her own movies, it’s as simple as that.”
