Arsenal have officially announced Andrea Berta as the club’s new sporting director, with co-chair Josh Kroenke praising the transfer expert as “an impressive figure.”
The appointment comes after the unexpected departure of Edu in November, leaving the club in turmoil. Jason Ayto, Edu’s former deputy, stepped in temporarily but oversaw a disappointing January transfer window.
Following an extensive search that considered various candidates, including the recently dismissed Manchester United chief Dan Ashworth, Arsenal opted for Berta, who brings nearly 12 years of experience from Atletico Madrid.
“I am thrilled to be joining Arsenal at such an exciting time for the club,” said Berta upon his appointment. “I have closely followed Arsenal’s evolution in recent years and admired the hard work put into re-establishing the club as a major force in European football, with a passionate global fanbase.”
“The club has a rich history and strong values, and I’m eager to contribute to shaping its successful future alongside a fantastic team. I can’t wait to experience my first game at Emirates Stadium with our supporters.”
Kroenke also shared his enthusiasm: “Anyone who knows football understands Andrea’s reputation. He has extensive knowledge of the game, a proven track record, a wide network, and a relentless drive to build winning teams.”
“Andrea is a perfect fit for Arsenal. He understands our values, and we are confident that his expertise will help us continue to pursue major trophies. We conducted a thorough recruitment process, and while all candidates impressed us, Andrea’s experience and success stood out.”
“We look forward to working with him and welcoming him into the Arsenal family.”
