Chelsea’s poor run of form continued on Saturday as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Trevoh Chalobah was forced off with a back injury after just eight minutes, but Chelsea’s strong start remained unaffected. Before Chalobah had even settled on the sidelines, the Blues were celebrating their opening goal. Pedro Neto, playing as a striker, sprinted down the right wing and delivered a cross into the six-yard box, which Enzo Fernandez tapped home.
Villa equalized ten minutes into the second half when Marco Asensio bundled in Marcus Rashford’s cut-back, and the hosts looked the more likely to score a winner.
In the final moments, Villa got the goal they deserved. Rashford’s quick corner found Asensio unmarked in the box, and his shot somehow squirmed through Filip Jorgensen and into the net.
Chelsea missed the chance to move into fourth place, while Villa finished the day just one point behind in seventh.
