Burnley’s celebrations after securing promotion to the Premier League took a chaotic turn on Easter Monday, as tempers flared and players clashed during a dramatic pitch invasion at Turf Moor.
It was a landmark day in the Championship, with both Burnley and Leeds United confirming their returns to the top flight with crucial victories. Leeds thrashed Stoke City 6-0 at Elland Road, before Burnley’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United mathematically ruled the Blades out of automatic promotion contention.
Jubilant scenes followed at both stadiums, but celebrations in Burnley spiraled out of control when fans flooded the pitch and tensions boiled over among some of the home players. A now-viral video also captured a troubling moment involving Hamza Choudhury, currently on loan at Sheffield United from Leicester City, being confronted and goaded by a pitch-invading Burnley supporter.

With security scrambling to escort Sheffield United players off the field, Choudhury appeared visibly enraged. While Sky Sports cameras quickly cut away from the confrontation, The Star later reported that Choudhury had to be “dragged” down the tunnel by security staff.
Despite the chaotic scenes, both Leeds and Burnley now sit on 94 points, an unassailable tally for third-placed Sheffield United, even if they win their final two games. With promotion sealed and first and second place locked in, attention now shifts to the play-off race.
Currently, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Bristol City, and Coventry occupy the remaining top-six positions, with just two rounds of fixtures left to determine who will battle it out for the final promotion spot.
