Borussia Dortmund have parted ways with their manager, Nuri Sahin, following a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna on Tuesday.
The German Bundesliga side currently sit 13th in their Champions League group, despite reaching the competition’s final last season. Domestically, they are struggling as well, languishing in 10th place in the Bundesliga, 20 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
Sahin, who took over as head coach last summer after Edin Terzic’s departure, addressed the situation in a statement issued by the club:
“Unfortunately, we have failed to meet Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions this season. I wish this special club nothing but success in the future.”
Meanwhile, former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been linked with the Dortmund job. The Dutchman, who left the Premier League side last October, has reportedly visited Dortmund recently.
