Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s striker, has spoken out following his team’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
The Norwegian forward expressed confidence that Pep Guardiola’s side will bounce back, emphasizing their unity. Haaland was absent from the squad for City’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of their Champions League playoff on Wednesday.
Although Haaland played in the first leg, where City lost 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium last week, he was sidelined for the second match due to a knee issue. Before the game, Guardiola had stated that Haaland was not close to playing due to the injury.
Following the loss, Haaland took to Twitter on Thursday, encouraging the team to learn from the setback: “We remain as one, sometimes you have to experience this in life and learn from it, you can’t always win. We’ll rise again together,” he wrote.
With eight goals in the Champions League this season, Haaland remains one of the competition’s top scorers. The 24-year-old will now aim to recover in time for City’s Premier League match against Liverpool this weekend.
