Chelsea secured a much-needed 4-0 win over Southampton on Tuesday evening, providing a welcome boost to their morale.
Tensions were high at Stamford Bridge following a pre-match protest against the club’s ownership, with frustrated fans voicing their displeasure as Chelsea struggled to build from the back.
It was in the 24th minute that Chelsea finally delivered the goal their supporters had been craving. After a superb save by Aaron Ramsdale to deny Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku pounced on the rebound from a corner to put Chelsea ahead.
Nkunku quickly turned from scorer to provider, setting up Pedro Neto for a powerful strike beyond Ramsdale to double the Blues’ advantage. The lead was further extended when Levi Colwill rose to head home a Neto free-kick, sending the home crowd into high spirits by halftime.
Though Palmer missed a chance and Neto’s touch let him down on another opportunity, Chelsea didn’t need to wait long to seal the win. In the 78th minute, Marc Cucurella finished off a brilliant cut-back from Tyrique George to make it 4-0.
