Chelsea have emerged as the latest club to show interest in signing Bologna centre-back Sam Beukema, according to reports from Italy.
The 26-year-old joined Bologna from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023 and has impressed with his defensive skills, earning widespread praise as Bologna targets a spot in next season’s Champions League. His strong performance in a 2-1 win over AC Milan last month caught the attention of scouts, with Italian outlet Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Chelsea representatives were in attendance to watch Beukema in action.
Chelsea are looking to strengthen their defence this summer, with Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Trevoh Chalobah facing uncertain futures at the club. Meanwhile, Wesley Fofana continues to work his way back from a long-term injury.
Beukema’s standout displays have garnered interest from several clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Juventus, while Liverpool has also been linked with the Dutch defender. Reds boss Arne Slot, who previously managed Beukema at Feyenoord, has openly expressed his desire to sign him.
A move to England would be appealing to Beukema, who has previously admitted his affection for West Ham United, though he would not be opposed to joining another Premier League club. In an interview in October 2024, he said, “I also have ambitions and I hope one day I can play maybe in the Premier League or another big club. I used to support West Ham. I visited Upton Park once with my father. I was really impressed, because the atmosphere was similar to Feyenoord or Go Ahead Eagles. But, of course, there are so many amazing teams in England, so if another nice club like Liverpool came along, I’d be happy to go there one day.”
