Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will resume training immediately after a potential move to Al-Nassr fell through.
Since joining Leverkusen in the summer of 2023, the 24-year-old Boniface has made a strong impact, helping his team secure a local double during his debut season. However, this year, he has faced some difficulties. After a slow start in front of goal, he suffered a thigh injury in November that has kept him sidelined.
Despite recently extending his contract with Leverkusen until 2029, Boniface attracted interest from Al-Nassr, with the Saudi Pro League club reportedly offering him a lucrative deal worth up to €15 million in wages. However, the move collapsed when Al-Nassr opted to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran for €77 million instead.
With his future now secure at Leverkusen, Alonso expressed satisfaction with Boniface’s return to the squad. “He will train again tomorrow. I believe he is staying with us, and I am happy about that. He is comfortable here, and I don’t think this situation has caused him any stress,” Alonso said after Leverkusen’s 2-0 victory over Sparta Prague, as reported by Fotmob.
Despite missing 12 games due to his recurring injury, Boniface has scored eight goals in 15 appearances across all competitions this season.
His return is a valuable boost for Leverkusen as they look to challenge Bayern Munich, who currently hold a six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.
