Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hailed Moisés Caicedo as the best defensive midfielder in the world, praising his humility and kindness.
Maresca highlighted that Caicedo’s character is unparalleled, noting that his work ethic sets him apart.
In their match against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, Enzo Fernández, assisted by Cole Palmer, gave Chelsea the lead in the 50th minute. Caicedo thought he had doubled the lead in the 58th minute, but his goal was ruled out by VAR.
The 1-0 victory against Spurs saw Maresca’s side move back into fourth place in the Premier League with 52 points, edging out Manchester City, who sit on 51.
While it may be too soon to call the Ecuadorian the world’s best defensive midfielder, his humility and dedication certainly left a lasting impression on Maresca.
Speaking after the match, Maresca said, “Moi Caicedo is so humble, so kind… so good. He’s one of the best, if not the best, defensive midfielder in the world right now. The best thing about Moi is that every day he’s working very seriously. He’s an example.”
