New West Ham United manager Graham Potter has stated that his time at Chelsea has made him a better coach.
Potter was appointed as Chelsea’s head coach in September 2022, taking over from Thomas Tuchel shortly after Todd Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich as the club’s chairman. However, Potter’s tenure at Stamford Bridge was challenging, as Chelsea finished 12th in the league with 38 points from 38 matches, and he was dismissed in April 2023 following an 11th defeat in 31 games. Mauricio Pochettino was later appointed as the club’s new head coach in July 2023.
After nearly two years without a managerial role, Potter was appointed as West Ham’s new boss. Reflecting on his time at Chelsea, he told the press, “I think I’m a better person now for the experience, a better coach for the experience, and well rested.”
Potter replaces Julen Lopetegui, who had a six-month stint in charge of West Ham, a club currently 14th in the Premier League with 23 points from 20 matches. Potter’s first match in charge will be against Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday.
