Liverpool manager Arne Slot explained the reasons behind his team’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai secured all three points for Liverpool against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium.
The win moved Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table, with an 11-point lead over second-place Arsenal.
In his post-match interview, Slot highlighted his team’s solid defensive performance against City and pointed to crucial moments in counter-attacks that led to the victory.
“Winning at the Etihad is always a huge achievement, no matter where the teams stand in the table,” Slot said. “When you play away against a Pep [Guardiola] team, it’s nearly impossible to have more possession than them.”
“We knew we had to defend a lot, and we did that really well. Then, some key moments on the counter-attack helped us win the game.”
Liverpool’s next Premier League match is against Newcastle United on Wednesday at Anfield. After that, Slot’s side will face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie on March 5.
