Erling Haaland returned to Manchester City training on Tuesday, but manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that a final decision on his availability for Wednesday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur will be made closer to kick-off.
The Norway international suffered a knee injury late in the victory over Newcastle United earlier this month. While initial assessments were optimistic, he has missed City’s last two matches against Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Haaland was seen back in training on Tuesday, but Guardiola urged City fans to be patient, admitting that the decision on his participation will not be made until after Wednesday’s final training session.
“We will know tonight, after training,” Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference. “I hope so, but I don’t know yet. He feels better but couldn’t have played in the last two games.”
City has struggled to find their usual scoring form in Haaland’s absence and will be cautious of an upset against a Tottenham side that is on a strong run of form. With three consecutive Premier League victories, Ange Postecoglou’s team has risen to 12th in the table, 11 points behind City as they prepare for the midweek fixture.
