Liverpool are closing in on their second Premier League title, and their coronation could come as soon as Wednesday night—without them even stepping onto the pitch.
While Arne Slot’s side hasn’t quite matched the dominance of their blistering start to the 2024/25 season, Arsenal’s failure to capitalize on Liverpool’s recent slip-ups has left the Reds with a comfortable path to the title.

This was supposed to be a transitional season following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, but Mohamed Salah has delivered a sensational campaign, helping steer Liverpool toward glory despite off-the-field distractions, including three ongoing contract sagas.
With Salah dazzling on the right and Virgil van Dijk leading the back line, the Reds have found consistency. Trent Alexander-Arnold, potentially bound for Real Madrid, gave fans a memorable moment by netting the winner against Leicester on Sunday—perhaps his farewell gift.
So, how could Liverpool win the league on Wednesday night without playing?
Why Liverpool Could Be Crowned Champions on Wednesday
Thanks to Alexander-Arnold’s late strike at the King Power, Liverpool hold a 13-point lead at the top with just five games remaining. They’re set to face Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, where a win would seal the title.
But there’s a twist. Arsenal, their closest challengers, play Crystal Palace on Wednesday—rescheduled due to Palace’s FA Cup semi-final involvement this weekend. If the Gunners lose at the Emirates, Liverpool will be crowned champions without kicking a ball.
Arsenal can still mathematically reach 81 points by winning all five of their remaining matches. Liverpool currently sit on 79. A Palace win would cap Arsenal at 78 points—giving the Reds an unassailable lead. Even a draw would leave Liverpool needing just a point on Sunday.
Despite the scenario, captain Virgil van Dijk remains cautious:
“I expect Arsenal to win at home but, yeah, if it doesn’t happen then I think it would be nice to be together,” he said after the Leicester match. “We’ll see how that plays out, but if Arsenal win, we’ll focus on doing our job this weekend.”
Liverpool’s only previous Premier League title, in 2020, was also confirmed without them playing, after Manchester City fell 2-1 to Chelsea. That night, the squad celebrated together at Formby Hall Hotel.
Wednesday night could bring déjà vu.
