Nollywood actress, Ronke Oshodi-Oke has acknowledged her appreciation for the craft of humor and said she never thought she would be the lead in a comedy.
In an interview, the seasoned actress, who is well-known for her versatility in the Nigerian film business, discussed the difficulties in getting people to laugh.
“I never believed I could act in a film that would make people laugh. Honestly, it’s not easy. Making people sit down for close to two hours and then enjoying what you do and laughing at what you do is extreme creativity,” she said.
The actress, whose real name is Ibironke Ojo, has built a reputation for playing diverse roles in Nollywood. While she has starred in both serious and comedic roles, she acknowledged that comedy requires a special kind of talent. According to her, making people laugh is a difficult task that demands impeccable timing, delivery, and a deep understanding of human emotions.
Reflecting on her journey, Oshodi-Oke said she initially doubted her ability to thrive in comedy. However, through experience and dedication, she learned to master the craft. She credited her colleagues in the industry for inspiring her and helping her improve her comedic skills.
“Comedy is an art that requires skill. It is not just about acting; it’s about connecting with your audience and making sure they forget their worries, even if it’s just for a short while,” she added.
Over the years, Oshodi-Oke has featured in numerous Nollywood productions, many of which have showcased her ability to blend drama and humor effortlessly. She believes that comedy is a powerful tool that helps people cope with life’s difficulties, and she takes pride in contributing to the happiness of her audience.
Despite her success, she admitted that comedy is one of the most challenging genres in the film industry. “Some people think comedy is easy, but it’s not. It takes great effort to make people laugh naturally. You have to be intentional about your performance while also making it look effortless,” she noted.
