Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel has expressed his surprise at receiving his first-ever invitation to the Super Eagles.
The 23-year-old has been included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Daniel was part of the home-based Super Eagles team that secured qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) last year and has been one of the standout performers for Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season.
“I never expected it; I was just focusing on my game. When I saw the provisional list, I was shocked, and when I saw the final 23-man list, I was extremely happy,” he told NFF TV.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday, and Daniel is eager to make his debut against coach Adel Amrouche’s side.
“I believe we have everything we need, so I’m just praying for luck. If I get the chance, I’ll be very happy to show Nigeria and the world who I am and what I can do,” he added.
