Diogo Dalot has expressed his confidence that Manchester United can win the Premier League and other major trophies under Ruben Amorim’s leadership.
Amorim has faced a challenging start at Old Trafford, with United hitting their lowest point in the 12 years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. There is widespread acknowledgment that the current squad isn’t well-suited to the playing style Amorim thrived with at his former club, Sporting CP, which he has aimed to introduce at United. The signing of versatile wing-back Patrick Dorgu was an early move toward Amorim’s vision, with summer target Geovany Quenda signaling further intentions.
However, it will likely take several transfer windows to fully reshape the squad, as the club’s new sporting hierarchy works to rebuild. Despite this, Dalot remains optimistic that United can return to their former glories.
“When you ask me honestly, I believe we can win a Premier League with this manager,” Dalot shared in an interview with United’s Local Supporters’ Club, published by the club’s media.
“I think it’s realistic, but as a fan, it’s difficult to accept that it will take time. I understand that. I’m a player, but I know what the fans feel. I know this club is eager to win, and everyone wants to win. We’re not just talking about cups—though I know those are important—but what made this club great were the big trophies.”
Dalot believes Amorim can lead United to a Premier League title, but emphasizes the need for patience and a solid foundation: “We need to create an environment where he has everything set for what he wants from the players. We also need to adapt to the system. It will take some time.”
He added, “Obviously, we can’t look too far ahead, but I am convinced that with the way he leads, how he communicates with players, and his ideas, we can achieve great things. It’s a challenge, but I’m optimistic and positive that we can win big trophies under him.”
While the 12-year title drought at United is seen as unacceptable, it’s worth noting that other major clubs have faced even longer dry spells. Arsenal hasn’t won the Premier League in 21 years, Chelsea’s last title came eight years ago, and Tottenham Hotspur hasn’t been crowned champions since 1961. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are approaching a full century since their last top-flight title.
