Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is reportedly contemplating a move away from the club during the January transfer window due to his lack of consistent game time, according to recent reports.
The 33-year-old, who is in the final six months of his contract with Arsenal, joined the club from Chelsea midway through the 2022/23 season for £12 million. With no new contract on the table, Jorginho’s future at the Emirates looks increasingly uncertain.
The Italy international, who has earned 57 caps for his country, has been used sparingly by manager Mikel Arteta this season, making just nine starts across all competitions. This limited involvement has left him frustrated, as he seeks more first-team opportunities.
According to ESPN, Jorginho is now considering leaving the club and has been offered to Brazilian side Palmeiras following discussions between his agent and Arsenal. Palmeiras, along with fellow Brazilian club Flamengo, are reportedly among the options Jorginho is open to as he evaluates his next move.
Arsenal may look to cash in on Jorginho during January to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer. This could also provide funds to reinvest in the squad as the Gunners look to strengthen for the second half of the season.
Despite sitting six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, Arsenal remains in the title race, although they have struggled with creativity and attacking play in recent weeks. The team’s challenges have been compounded by a long-term injury to Bukayo Saka.
Arteta has been asked about potential January signings to address these creative gaps but has kept his plans close to his chest, admitting that while the squad has “limitations,” finding the right players to improve the team is challenging in the current market.
