Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed that his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, turned down two invitations to return to the Premier League club.
Klopp stepped down at the end of last season after a nine-year tenure at Anfield, with Slot taking over the role. So far, Slot has made an impressive start, with Liverpool currently topping the league and finishing first in their Champions League group. They are also set to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.
Despite Klopp not returning to Merseyside since his departure, Slot emphasized that the former manager would be welcome to visit the Reds’ training ground or Anfield.
Speaking to the media, Slot said:
“I invited him [Klopp] to the [Manchester] City and Real [Madrid] home games, but he told me he was somewhere else in the world. He can come here anytime he wants, to the games or even to this building [at the training ground in Kirkby]. For me, he is more than welcome. In the first half of the season, he was enjoying life with his wife, and right now, he has a job to do.”
