Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti could face a four-year prison sentence after being accused of tax fraud.
The Italian coach is set to stand trial on Wednesday over allegations that he defrauded the Spanish Treasury of €1 million. According to Mundo Deportivo, Ancelotti is accused of evading taxes totaling €1,062,079—€386,361 in 2014 and €675,718 in 2015.
The Provincial Court of Madrid has scheduled the hearing, with prosecutors seeking a prison term of four years and nine months. Ancelotti’s total tax debt, including surcharges and interest, amounts to €1,217,958.24, which has been seized by the Tax Agency.
The prosecution claims that Ancelotti did not hide his earnings from image rights but allegedly transferred them to other entities, a defense they reportedly do not find convincing.
Ancelotti first joined Real Madrid in 2013, where he won the Champions League and Copa del Rey, though the La Liga title eluded him. He returned to the club in 2021 and has since added multiple trophies to his collection, including two La Liga titles and two Champions League victories.
Ancelotti is the most successful manager in Real Madrid’s history, with 15 trophies.
