Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has voiced his frustration over the Spanish National Sports Council’s decision to allow Barcelona to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.
Simeone expressed his disapproval, emphasizing that Atletico Madrid has always adhered to LaLiga’s financial regulations.
Barcelona had been unable to register Olmo and Víctor since signing them in the summer due to financial constraints. However, the council’s recent decision has provisionally cleared the way for their registration, ending months of uncertainty.
Reports suggest that LaLiga clubs were divided on the matter, with Atletico Madrid and Sevilla—both having representatives on the league’s delegation committee—strongly opposing Barcelona’s move.
The decision has sparked widespread debate in Spain, particularly among clubs competing under LaLiga’s strict financial controls.
Ahead of Atletico’s clash with Osasuna, Simeone shared his thoughts, stating via Tribal Football:
“It’s better that I keep quiet, that’s all. Our club, like all members of LaLiga until this resolution, has respected the rules of economic control and will continue to respect them.
“To maintain the competitive level we’ve reached in recent years, we have taken on significant financial challenges, including capital increases, despite the enormous effort required.”
In a statement on its website, Atletico Madrid criticized the council’s decision, warning of its potential consequences:
“This government intervention creates a very dangerous precedent, as it opens the door to circumventing the rules and repeating the serious mistakes of the past.”
The provisional registration of Olmo and Víctor continues to draw strong reactions across Spain, highlighting tensions between clubs and the league’s regulatory framework.
