Sevilla head coach Garcia Pimienta has dismissed allegations that he disrespected Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
Former Nigeria international Finidi George recently claimed in an interview that the Rojiblancos had not treated Iheanacho with the respect he deserves.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla on a free transfer last summer after parting ways with Leicester City. However, the 28-year-old has struggled to secure regular playing time, failing to score in nine LaLiga appearances for the club.
Addressing the claims, Pimienta told Marca:
“We have not disrespected Iheanacho at any time. He has played less than I expected. He is an established international player, but Isaac has played more.”
The manager added:
“It is possible that he has options in European football, but he hasn’t played as much, just like other teammates, and no one has been disrespected. I believe he will have offers, and he will decide. If he stays, there will be no problem.”
Pimienta’s comments come amid growing speculation about Iheanacho’s future, as the striker continues to struggle for form and minutes at the former UEFA Europa League champions.
