LaLiga has turned down Real Madrid’s request to move this weekend’s fixture against Alaves forward by a day, despite the club’s efforts to gain extra rest ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side is set to face Alaves on Sunday, just three days before their crucial clash at the Santiago Bernabéu, where they’ll attempt to overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit.
According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid contacted LaLiga via email, proposing that the match be played on Saturday instead. “Moving the match against Deportivo Alavés to Saturday, April 12 would allow us more time to adequately prepare for both that match and the decisive match on Wednesday, April 16 at the Santiago Bernabéu,” the club wrote.
Real Madrid had already reached out to Alaves, who were reportedly willing to accommodate the change. However, LaLiga has insisted the game proceed as originally scheduled.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will benefit from an extra day’s rest, as they host Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
