Former Real Madrid player and sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, has urged Carlo Ancelotti to step down as the club’s manager.
While acknowledging the Italian’s successful tenure, Mijatovic believes the Champions League holders need fresh ideas moving forward. He feels it’s time for Ancelotti to leave the Santiago Bernabeu and make way for a younger coach to take over.
In an interview with Josep Pedrerol on El Cafelito, despite Ancelotti having no plans to leave, Mijatovic expressed that the coach’s time at the club has come to an end. He argued that Real Madrid needs a new direction next season.
Mijatovic praised Ancelotti’s legacy, noting that no manager is likely to surpass his record at the club. However, he stated that Ancelotti has been at Madrid for too long and believes the Italian has little left to offer.
Speaking to MARCA, Mijatovic said, “Ancelotti is the coach who has won the most titles, and I don’t think anyone will surpass him.”
Despite this, Mijatovic thinks it’s time for change: “Regardless of how this season ends, Ancelotti should leave Madrid. He’s been here for too long, and while he’s won many titles, it’s hard for him to bring anything more, anything new, anything revolutionary.”
Ancelotti first joined Real Madrid in 2013, left in 2015, and returned in 2021. During his time at the club, he has won two La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies.
