Arsenal relied on stand-in striker Mikel Merino to secure an unconvincing 2-0 victory away at Leicester City on Saturday.
With several key forwards sidelined due to injury, Arsenal’s attack struggled for fluidity. Starting striker Leandro Trossard had a few half-chances in the first half, but the best opportunity of the opening period came from Wilfred Ndidi, who agonizingly steered a shot wide in the final moments before the break.
The Gunners showed more energy in the second half, with the lively Ethan Nwaneri hitting the woodwork twice. However, they continued to have difficulty creating chances, leading to Merino being introduced from the bench to provide a spark in attack.
With just ten minutes remaining, Merino made his mark, heading in Nwaneri’s cross to give Arsenal the lead. The Spaniard sealed the win with a smart tap-in at the back post in the dying minutes, ensuring the three points for his side.
