The 29-year-old will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians Vincent Enyeama and Victor Osimhen, both of whom have previously won the prestigious award.
Enyeama became the first Nigerian to win the honor during the 2013/14 season, while Osimhen claimed the award in the 2019/20 campaign while playing for Lille.
