Liverpool extended their lead over title rivals Arsenal to 16 points with a 3-1 comeback victory over bottom-placed Southampton in the Premier League.
The Reds were expected to dominate the struggling Saints at Anfield, but they found themselves trailing at halftime due to a costly error. A mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson allowed Will Smallbone to score into an open net, giving Southampton a surprising lead.
However, Liverpool turned the game around quickly after the break. Darwin Nunez, who had been lucky to avoid a red card in the first half for a kick on Kyle Walker-Peters, put Liverpool ahead with a well-taken finish from Luis Diaz’s excellent cross. Nunez then won a penalty, which Mohamed Salah confidently converted.
Salah sealed the win with another penalty in the final moments, ensuring Liverpool secured a crucial three points in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
