Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Manchester City’s James McAtee, joining a host of Premier League and European clubs interested in the talented midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph’s James Ducker.
The 22-year-old, who has found consistent game time hard to come by under Pep Guardiola, is expected to leave the Etihad at the end of the season. With his contract set to expire in June 2026, McAtee is unlikely to sign an extension, leaving City open to offers.
United, alongside Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen, are said to admire the England U21 international. Forest and Leverkusen are currently seen as the frontrunners, each viewing McAtee as a potential successor to Morgan Gibbs-White and Florian Wirtz, respectively.

McAtee has a past connection to United’s technical director Jason Wilcox, who worked closely with him during his time at City’s academy. Leverkusen attempted to sign the midfielder on loan in January with a £25 million buy option, but their proposal was rejected.
Despite limited starts—just two in the Premier League this season—McAtee has made 25 appearances in total, scoring seven goals across nearly 900 minutes.
As United gear up for their first transfer window under manager Ruben Amorim, attacking reinforcements are expected to be the main focus. The club are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and have identified Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as a top striker target.
United currently sit 14th in the table with five games remaining, next facing Bournemouth away on Sunday.
