Manchester United have withdrawn from the race to sign Xavi Simons after RB Leipzig set an €80 million asking price for the 21-year-old midfielder. The hefty price tag has led the Premier League club to reassess their transfer plans.
Simons, currently on loan at Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain, has been one of the standout young talents in European football, with his performances in the Bundesliga attracting attention from top clubs, including Manchester United. However, Leipzig’s steep valuation has made a move difficult to pursue.
With plans to strengthen their midfield in the summer, United has decided to back away from negotiations for Simons, citing Financial Fair Play regulations and budget constraints. The club is now expected to focus on alternative targets who provide better value at a more reasonable price.
While Simons remains in demand, a move to Old Trafford seems unlikely unless Leipzig or PSG adjust their financial demands.
