Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has stated that the club expects more from Christopher Nkunku.
Maresca expressed satisfaction with the Frenchman’s performance in Chelsea’s 4-0 Premier League win over Southampton on Tuesday, a victory that ended a three-game winless streak and lifted the team back into the top four.
Nkunku, along with Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella, were on the scoresheet in the dominant win. When asked about Nkunku’s performance, Maresca told TNT Sports:
“I’m happy with him, but I know he can offer more. We expect more from him. At the same time, we try to understand him because he’s not a traditional nine. He’s often played in that role, but he’s not a winger either, and tonight he played as one. He’s an attacking midfielder, and sometimes we have to find balance. We’ve already used Cole Palmer in that role, so we try to use Nkunku in different positions.”
Chelsea’s next match is against Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League Round of 16 on March 6.
