Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained why his team suffered a 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.
Maresca watched as Mikel Merino’s first-half goal handed victory to Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium.
In his post-match interview, Maresca said:
“It’s disappointing; we don’t like losing, especially in a game like this. We had a tough start, struggling in the first 20 minutes, but after that, we controlled the game and created some chances in the first half.
“The second half was more evenly matched, but the difference came from set-pieces.”
He continued:
“If you consider the three players [Palmer, Jackson, Madueke] who have scored the most goals for us, none of them were on the pitch today. It’s understandable that we struggled offensively.”
Despite the loss, Chelsea remain in fourth place in the Premier League standings. They will next face Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.
