Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger have been cleared to play against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League following an investigation into their controversial celebrations.
After Madrid’s victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16, Mbappe and Rudiger were seen making inappropriate gestures during their celebrations. UEFA launched an inquiry into the incident, and there were concerns that the players could face suspensions for the upcoming match against Arsenal.
However, the European governing body has decided to fine both players, rather than impose a ban, meaning they will be available for the semifinal clash with the Gunners next week.
Good News for Madrid Fans
Real Madrid fans received positive news after UEFA announced that Mbappe and Rudiger would only be fined for their actions in the Atletico victory. According to Charles Watts on X, “No bans for any of the Madrid players from UEFA for their celebrations after the win at Atletico. Mbappe, Rudiger will be available to face Arsenal on Tuesday.”
UEFA’s statement reads:
- “To fine Real Madrid CF player Antonio Rudiger €40,000 and suspend him for one (1) UEFA club competition match, which will not be enforced immediately, subject to a one-year probationary period.”
- “To fine Real Madrid CF player Kylian Mbappe €30,000 and suspend him for one (1) UEFA club competition match, which will not be enforced immediately, subject to a one-year probationary period.”
- “To fine Real Madrid CF player Daniel Ceballos Fernández €20,000 for violating the basic rules of decent conduct.”
With the fines in place, both Mbappe and Rudiger are set to be available for the crucial Champions League semifinal against Arsenal.
