France captain Kylian Mbappé has expressed his happiness at the prospect of Zinedine Zidane becoming the next manager of the French national team.
As previously confirmed, current manager Didier Deschamps will step down after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leading to speculation about who will succeed him. Zidane, former manager of Real Madrid, is one of the names linked to the role.
In an interview with TF1, Mbappé stated:
“It’s not for me to decide who replaces Deschamps. I try not to talk about it too much. It’s not my job, and there’s already a manager in place. You have to respect those who are in charge.”
He added, “I don’t need to prove my admiration for Zidane, but I also think it’s important to respect the current manager (Deschamps). If Zidane does take over, it would be a great pleasure, and I would be extremely happy, but ultimately, it’s not my decision.”
Mbappé, who has recently rejoined the France squad, was named in Deschamps’ squad for the upcoming Nations League quarter-finals against Croatia.
