Arsenal legend Paul Merson has stated that he believes the Gunners can no longer win the Premier League title this season.
Merson made the claim on Sky Sports after Arsenal suffered a surprising 1-0 home defeat to West Ham. Jarrod Bowen’s 44th-minute header was the only goal of the match at the Emirates.
The loss leaves Arsenal eight points behind Liverpool, with both teams having played the same number of games. Liverpool can extend their lead with a win over Manchester City tomorrow.
Merson commented:
“[The title race is over] one million percent. Arsenal can’t catch Liverpool. They have no striker. They’ve got a talented 17-year-old in Nwaneri, who has a bright future, but he struggled today.
“Trossard is a bit-part player, in my opinion. There’s absolutely no chance Arsenal can win the league. Even if Liverpool lose 7-0 to Man City, Arsenal still can’t win it.
“I’ve seen enough today to know they’ll struggle until the end of the season. With 12 games left, they’ll be lucky to win half of them.
“Suddenly, the PSV game in the Champions League is a coin toss. They’ve got nothing up front. They are toothless.”
