Two former Nigeria internationals, John Mikel Obi and Celestine Babayaro, featured for Chelsea Legends on Saturday in a charity match against Liverpool Legends.
Mikel Obi and Babayaro joined other former Blues stars such as Claude Makélélé, Florent Malouda, Ramires, Dennis Wise, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Liverpool Legends were managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, who gave starting spots to Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypiä, Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt, and Jerzy Dudek.
However, it was Peter Crouch who grabbed the spotlight, scoring twice on his return to Anfield.
Crouch opened the scoring early in the second half, heading in a superb cross from Florent Sinama-Pongolle. He then doubled Liverpool’s lead with a deft lob over Rob Green 11 minutes later.
Chelsea Legends had their chances, with Robert Huth and Jon Harley missing key opportunities.
Mikel Obi spent 11 successful years at Chelsea, securing several titles, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the 2012 Champions League. Babayaro, meanwhile, was with Chelsea from 1997 to 2005.
