Officials from Saudi Arabia remain optimistic about their chances of signing Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah this summer.
With just three months left on Salah’s Liverpool contract, frustration has surfaced publicly from the player over the lack of progress regarding a contract extension. This, combined with uncertainty surrounding Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has created some tension among Reds fans.
Reports suggest that Alexander-Arnold has agreed to a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, though there is still hope within Liverpool that both Salah and Van Dijk will sign new deals before the summer.
According to The Telegraph, officials from the Saudi Pro League acknowledge that Salah still prioritizes Liverpool but remain confident that they are in the running to sign the Egyptian forward at the end of the season.
Salah is said to be in regular contact with Saudi dealmakers, and there is growing belief that he may be open to a move to the Middle East if Liverpool fails to meet his contract demands.
While uncertainty surrounds his future, it is clear that Salah will not leave Liverpool before his contract expires. The summer transfer window will briefly open in June, allowing teams, including Al Hilal, to strengthen their squads ahead of the Club World Cup. There is speculation that a Saudi club could make an offer to buy out Salah’s contract in order to secure his participation in the tournament.
However, it is expected that Salah will not make any decisions during this window, even if he eventually leaves Anfield on a free transfer.
Liverpool is exercising patience as they continue to negotiate a new contract with Salah, hoping not to rush him into a decision. A similar approach is being taken with Van Dijk, who reportedly has interest from both Saudi Arabia and European clubs.
