Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho may find himself in trouble following his comments after a 0-0 draw with Galatasaray on Monday.
The result leaves Mourinho’s team six points behind their rivals in the Turkish Super Lig.
Speaking after the match, the Portuguese manager praised the referee for his handling of the game, but also made controversial remarks.
He said:
“In the situation I mentioned, everyone on the opposing bench was jumping around like monkeys.
“If it were a Turkish referee, they would have immediately shown a card, and I would have had to take the player off in a minute.
“It was a great match for him.”
In response, Galatasaray released a statement condemning Mourinho’s words, announcing plans to initiate legal action.
The statement read:
“Since taking up his role as manager in Turkey, Fenerbahçe’s Jose Mourinho has repeatedly made derogatory comments about the Turkish people.
“Today, his language has gone beyond immoral remarks, escalating into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric.
“We hereby formally declare our intention to pursue criminal proceedings regarding the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and will submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.
“Additionally, we will closely monitor the response of Fenerbahçe – an institution that claims to uphold ‘exemplary moral values’ – to the reprehensible conduct of their manager.”
