In a recent interview on Kunleafod TV, Kiki Bakare, a well-known character in the Yoruba film industry, talked candidly about his surprising path into acting.
Bakare opened us about how his natural shyness initially prevented him from embracing the spotlight in his early years.
Bakare stated in the interview, “Being an actor was never part of my plan because I was a very shy person, and I never thought I could embrace it as a profession.”
He recounted how, whenever actors came to his house to film, he would retreat to his bedroom, overwhelmed by the presence of established performers.
This habit stemmed from his discomfort in social situations, highlighting the contrast between his reserved nature and the dynamic world of filmmaking.
His journey into acting began through his friendship with fellow actor Okiki Afolayan, who often brought other actors to Bakare’s home for movie shoots. Despite his initial reluctance to join the industry, Afolayan’s encouragement eventually led Bakare to step onto a film set.
“One day, Okiki Afolayan called me to come and replace an actor on a movie set, and I was taught some things,” he explained. However, the nerves kicked in, and he forgot everything he had learned when it was his turn to perform. Nevertheless, he managed to complete the scene, marking the beginning of his acting career.
