Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe will miss Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United after being admitted to hospital.
The 47-year-old was taken in on Friday evening after feeling unwell for several days. According to a club statement, Howe remains under observation for further tests but is conscious and in communication with his family.
“Eddie was admitted to hospital late on Friday evening having felt unwell for a number of days,” the club confirmed. “He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care.”
Newcastle extended their best wishes for a swift recovery, saying, “Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Eddie a speedy recovery.”
In Howe’s absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall and coach Graeme Jones will lead the team in a crucial fixture that could influence Newcastle’s Champions League hopes.
Currently sitting seventh in the Premier League, the Magpies could rise to third if they win their two games in hand. A top-five finish would be enough to secure a Champions League spot, thanks to England’s strong performance in European competitions this season.
