Rio Ferdinand has urged Ruben Amorim to invite Paul Pogba back to Manchester United, allowing him to train until his football ban is lifted.
The 31-year-old has been sidelined since the 2022/23 season due to injury, followed by a four-year suspension after failing a drugs test. After maintaining his innocence, Pogba’s sentence was reduced to 18 months, which will end next month. Since the start of the year, the Frenchman has been training in preparation. Ferdinand believes Amorim could offer Pogba a temporary spot in his squad.
“I’d tell Pogba, ‘Come in and train with us, let me see what you’ve got.’ I’d have done that already. Come in and get fit,” the former United defender shared on his YouTube channel.
Although Pogba can train as much as he wants, he remains without a club. He left Manchester United in 2022, and Juventus released him after learning about his suspension. After a quiet transfer deadline day, Ferdinand suggested that training with his former squad could lead Amorim to offer a return.
“I’d also take a look [at re-signing him],” Ferdinand added.
As a free agent, Pogba isn’t restricted to move only during transfer windows, which closed on Monday night. However, he hasn’t accepted any offers to return to football yet. Pogba has hinted at a desire to play at the highest level in Europe.
“There are proposals, some of which are interesting and some not so much. Russia and so on, there were proposals, but that is not the ‘goal’. We have other goals. A club that plays in the Champions League? Why not? If it comes, of course, why not? We always want to join the best clubs. After that, it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on many other things.”
Recently, he has also hinted at a potential move to Major League Soccer, expressing interest in joining David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
